Tribal Plastic

In 1983 I was living in Baltimore, and through an aquaintance I met Vesna Miksic, who was at the time teaching a Video Art course at the University of Maryland Baltimore County Campus. I was invited into the course and did my best to take advantage of the facilities. In addition to the early incarnation of the Stan Vanderbeek Image Lab, which I was later able to make use of, there were all manner of old defunct videotape recorders and other gadgets. This early video work is based on physical looping of 1/2" black and white reel-to-reel videotape, a la "Frippertronics". The audio was composed on a 4 track open reel machine, using field recordings from a local powerplant, an MXR 185 Drum Computer and an Ibanez Digital Delay.
